Thoroughly Examining the Evidence

A fire involves three factors called the 'Fire Triangle'. The triangle consists of the fuel source, oxygen, and the heat source. The crime of Arson typically leaves certain clues as to which of these three factors have been altered. These clues help an Arson investigator determine the origin of the fire; whether an accelerant (like gas) was used; and other factors such as burn patters which can be examined to determine the intensity, spread and duration of the fire.

A strong defense of an Arson charge requires an understanding of how a fire normally burns, and why. It also requires an understanding of the types of factors that an Arson investigator will use to determine that the fire was not accidental. In developing a strong defense for our client, we sometimes recommend that we use the services of a defense Arson Expert to counter the findings of the prosecutor's Arson Investigator.

Arson and Insurance Fraud

While the crime of Arson often refers to maliciously burning the home or business of another person, it can also include burning your own property to gain insurance money. When this occurs, the crimes you can be charged with include both Arson and Insurance Fraud.

If you have been accused of starting a dangerous fire or causing an explosion, or charged with Arson and Insurance Fraud you need a strong and vigorous defense to develop the details needed to support your defense.
