State of New Jersey v. DS

Outcome: Five-Case Drug Sentence Reduced from 25 Years to 4 Years

Description: The Client had an extensive previous criminal conviction history, and was then charged in 5 separate Drug Trafficking cases that exposed him to extended term sentencing; and, consecutive sentencing exposure. The State initially suggested a sentencing range of 25 years, with 12 1/2 years of parole ineligibility. During case discussions, we were able to significantly attack the facts of the several cases, and then re-opened plea discussions. These discussions resulted in the State offering a revised plea to one case, with a 4 year (flat - no period of parole ineligibility) sentence recommendation. Three other cases were dismissed, and one other case which had already been pled to before we became the client's lawyers was sentenced to run concurrent to the 4 year term. With the combined jail credits of the cases pled to, client needed to serve only about 6 additional months before the client was released.
