State of New Jersey v. ON

Outcome: 2nd Degree Theft - No-Plea PTI Diversion and Dismissal

Description: The client was charged with other several codefendants with the theft of approximately $20,000 in retail goods. The client is a foreign national and any conviction for these types of crimes would have resulted in permanent deportation from the US, as these charges are considered a 'crime involving moral turpitude'. We successfully convinced the State to allow the client to participate in the Pre-trial Intervention (PTI) program, without the entry of a guilty plea, which was essential to avoid the deportation consequences. After he was entered into PTI, we convinced State to discharge the client early, and dismiss the charges. We then successfully petitioned the Court to expunge his record. No conviction. No deportation. No record.
